Hubert de Givenchy initially stood for bright colours and oversized designer hats. His name is closely associated with Audrey Hepburn, whom he dressed both privately and for her films for over 40 years. He also numbered Grace Kelly and Jacqueline Kennedy among his clients. In 1995, Givenchy said his farewells to the world’s catwalks with a major fashion show. Both John Galliano and Alexander McQueen are among those who followed in his footsteps at the helm of this couture label, already sold to Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton (LVMH) in 1981. The Italian Riccardo Tisci became Givenchy’s creative director in 2005, personally supervising the prêt-à-porter line as well as the haute couture and accessory ranges. His trademark: a romantic Gothic-style.
