Tunisian Azzedine Alaïa is generally recognised as the last great couturier. Initially creating for Guy Laroche and Thierry Mugler, he soon opened his own studio. In the 1980s, his collections earned him the title of ‘King of Cling’. His close-fitting dresses were a great success, hugging the figures of the world’s most seductive and successful women, from Tina Turner to Michelle Obama and Madonna. The name Alaïa stands for glamour, sensuality, style, a good fit, confidence, comfort and, of course, sex appeal. The designer lives and works from his home in the Paris district of Marais.
